Self-care: Regular therapeutic massage improves mood, reduces pain, aids lymph flow and circulation and reduces stress.
Regular therapeutic massage offers both physical and mental health benefits. It reduces muscle tension, stiffness, and pain. It improves circulation and lymphatic drainage. The massage also enhances flexibility and range of motion. Additionally, it lowers stress and anxiety levels.
Physical Benefits
- Pain Relief: Eases muscle tension, stiffness, and soreness, which can reduce chronic pain and discomfort.
- Improved circulation: Stimulates blood flow and the lymphatic system, helping to reduce swelling and promote detoxification.
- Increased flexibility & range of motion: Massage can manipulate soft tissues to improve joint mobility. This enhances the ability to move freely.
- Faster recovery: Aids in quicker recovery between workouts and can help break up scar tissue, which improves soft tissue function.
- Supports Immune function: Stimulates lymph nodes and increases the number of lymphocytes, enhancing the body’s ability to fight illness.
Mental & Emotional Benefits
- Stress and anxiety reduction: Promotes deep relaxation and calm by reducing stress hormones like cortisol.
- Boosts “feel-good” hormones by stimulating the release of oxytocin. Oxytocin is often called the “cuddle hormone” because it promotes feelings of social bonding, trust, and connection. It also increases levels of serotonin and dopamine. These neurotransmitters are associated with happiness and well-being. They can help alleviate depression, a common companion to loneliness.
- May improve sleep
- Enhanced mood: The release of feel-good endorphins contributes to a greater sense of well-being.
- Boosted self-Image and self care: For individuals facing chronic illness or physical disabilities, the therapeutic touch offers nurturing care. It provides a sense of caring.
- Chronic pain conditions: Can help with conditions like fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome.
- Post-operative recovery: May assist in reducing post-operative pain and improving recovery.
- Digestive disorders: Abdominal massage can reduce symptoms of constipation and bloating.
- Mental Health Support: It can serve as a valuable complementary therapy. This support potentially improves readiness to address psychological issues by fostering feelings of well-being.
- Stimulation and toning of the vagal nerve: A well-toned vagus nerve helps regulate your body’s “rest and digest” response. It reduces stress and anxiety by calming the nervous system. These techniques are part of the parasympathetic nervous system. They help counteract the “fight or flight” response by slowing your heart rate. They also lower blood pressure.

Reviews
Gillian O’Shea’s treatments work. Her massages are the best I have ever had. I have walked into her rooms exhausted, stressed, emotional and generally not feeling well to leave feeling positive, rejuvenated and this lasts long after treatment. Do yourself a favor book today. I can highly recommend.
— Aysha Osmon, Knysna
I came into Gillian’s practice feeling tired and a bit burnt out and I left feeling energised, “unknotted”and with a general feeling of peace and calmness. Her knowledge of healing modalities is excellent. Outside of her extensive knowledge, she is also a very intuitive and sensitive therapist who makes you feel safe and nurtured during the healing process. Thank you Gill for your insights, your recommendations and most of all for your authenticity, you put such a smile on my face both during and after my visit. I would highly recommend a visit

Gillian is outstanding. Her knowledge and guidance shine through, and she has the gift of massage and healing. I am a massage therapist myself, and have never experienced a better massage and healing experience. I will visit her every time I come to Knysna, and highly recommend her.
